How to Sell Digital Products without Selling

How to Sell Digital Products without Selling

I dislike it when I walk into a store just to browse then, 3 seconds later a shop assistant appears out of thin air as if by magic.

Thereafter they say “Looking for something specific?” or “have you seen our new selection over here?”.

My favourite one is at the till, “Did you find everything you were looking for today?” arggghhhhh.

This is known as “Pressure selling” now, imagine a similar situation online or, via emails or website pop ups & banners.

One of my pet hates is texts that you may or may not have signed up for in the “small print”.

Next is the multiple questions at the till when all you want is to leave with your purchase.

1:Have you thought about an extended warranty?”, This is known as “Up Selling” or “Suggestive Selling”.

2:Could I take your email address please?”, This is known as “Data Collection”.

3:Did you want to put this on our store credit and earn extra discounts?”, This is known as “Cross Selling” & “Tying in”.

How to Sell Digital Products to the Rescue

This is all very annoying and, for me it STOPS me buying, stops me visiting stores either online or IRL (In Real Life).

It’s EXACTLY the same when it comes to selling either physical or digital products online.

Everything is geared towards psychology, but we are now savvy to these pressure selling techniques.

So, how can you sell digital products online WITHOUT actually selling?

Here’s some tips I have learned myself by trying both the “hard sell” & “pressure sell” methods, which DO NOT WORK!

Example 1: Let’s say I wanted to visit a store just to browse around, but then a T-shirt at a discounted “Today Only” price catches my eye.

I don’t want to lose discount, so I added them to my basket, this means I have been “FOMO’d” (Fear Of Missing Out).

As I am about to pay a matching pair of black shorts, also discounted catch my eye so, I pop these into my basket.

Therefore along with the T-shirt, this means I have “Up Sold” myself WITHOUT realising!

Apparently, the store was set out in such a way as to entice me to do this, see, again, psychology.

The shorts were placed near the T-shirt rail with similar colours and designs.

This subconsciously made me attracted in that direction and boom, an instant upsell is born without me knowing I was “up sold”.

Let’s use example 1 as a template for doing the same but on my personal digital products store.

TIPS TIME:

NEVER use a link either in a blog or anywhere else that sends visitors directly to your products!

1: Send a visitor directly to your home page which should NOT contain any “in your face selling”.

2: Send visitors to your blogs which can contain helpful advice, tutorials or guides.

3: Send visitors to your “About Us” page to build trust and this page can contain links too..

You NEED Primed Visitors to sell digital products to:

What are “Primed Visitors”?

Let’s say someone reads an article, blog, guide just as you are now, it has a link to your home page, blog page or About Us page and they click it.

This means they are interested in what you are saying or offering and want to know more, these are “Primed Visitors”.

EXAMPLE: Which would you click?

Here are 2 versions of some text containing a link to your site, which is the “soft sell” & which is the “in your face, hard sell”?

Moreover which would you prefer to click first?

1: Click HERE to view Digital Products that are guaranteed to make you a MASSIVE income monthly. (this links directly to one of my shop pages).
This page is full of genuine, discounted digital products

2: Click HERE to visit my Blog page containing ZERO obligations tutorials, FREE advice, FREE guides + each article has a FREE download which you can resell as your own.
This page contains a lot of FREE, helpful information, FREE tutorials, FREE guides.
There are also FREE gifts, downloads on each blog.

I know which one I’d prefer to click first.

Getting visitors to your site is more important than getting them to your shop.

Yes, of course you want them to visit your shop but NOT at the expense of losing their trust!

Build TRUST & LOYALTY First:

When first learning about how to sell digital products online it can be daunting so let’s build some trust!

Building trust & loyalty comes from providing what you say you will at zero expense to your visitors.

It also comes from giving FREE advice and offering to help then fulfilling those promises.

Opting in for FREE stuff

If they opt to click a link for a FREE download, fill in the form to achieve this and are now on your mailing list DON’T bombard them.

NO, instead as soon as they sign up to your free offering just send a “Thank you & Welcome” email then LEAVE THEM ALONE for at least 2 weeks.

Next, once you send your 1st “selling” email DON’T just sell, again, start off with FREE, helpful advice , add a link to another free download.

Therefore, you are not “In your face” selling, you are now delivering on your promises.

Sure, add images and links to products but ONLY AT THE VERY bottom.l.

Give a little to Get a little:

Going back to the “selling” email, here are the points to remember when constructing one.

1: (Part One) Start off by thanking them for being such a loyal subscriber then add a link with a short description to either a FREE or helpful article.

Offer a FREE download or even give away a cheap but helpful, single product.

2: (Part Two) Offer a “First Time” or “Site wide” discount code.

3: (Final part of your “selling” email”) I suggest you add 3 main graphics of products that may be of interest with NO obligation to click.

4: (Opt Out) ALWAYS mention in easy-to-read text with a link that they can “Unsubscribe” at any time by clicking a link.

ALL the above shows a few things:

You are NOT spamming the hell out of them, NOT hard selling, you ARE offering FREE advice.

Better still you ARE starting to create a “trusted” relationship that can produce loyalty and in return SALES!
